Now that we're into the month of May, pretty much every Pigeon Forge music theater that temporarily went dark for the winter is now up and running again. For Smoky Mountains visitors, these showplaces add a rich dimension to the city's many attractions. There's something about live entertainment that captivates audiences of all ages, and the theaters of Pigeon Forge offer a wide array of options for folks of all entertainment preferences.
This week, we're going to share our annual rundown of what's happening on the many theater stages of our area. So whether you're into music, magic, comedy or dinner shows, you're guaranteed to find something to your liking. This year, we're presenting them in north-south order, the way you would encounter them if you were driving through Pigeon Forge, starting in Sevierville.
We've all heard of the classic feud between the Hatfield and McCoy clans of West Virginia. But in this live production, they take all that fussin' and fightin' to hilarious new levels. Watch as the two families try to settle their differences mountain-style, through song and dance, feats of strength, amazing stunts and plenty of comedy. You'll even see hillbillies and dogs take a dive in the swimmin' hole. Audiences also enjoy an all-you-can-eat feast featuring fried chicken, pulled pork barbecue, creamy soup, mashed taters and much more.
This theater venue is home to two shows during the regular season. As the name suggests, Array offers a wide variety of entertainment, including singers and dancers performing songs from all genres and decades. The bill also features comedy and specialty acts like jugglers. The other main show on the theater schedule is Illusionation! The Magic Jason Hudy. This family-friendly show leaves audiences spellbound with everything from sleight of hand to large-scale illusions.
Here's another theater where audiences can choose from multiple shows. Memories made its name with tribute shows, and that hasn't changed thanks to the ICONS show, which features performers doing uncanny impressions of artists such as Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe and the Blues Brothers. Also check out Eddie Miles's salute to music legends. (Miles founded Memories Theatre in 1990 and performed an Elvis tribute there for many years.) Other shows include comedian Mark Staggs and his one-man show Festus & Friends as well as the Mountain Highway Bluegrass Review.
If you like country music, then you'll love Country Tonite! Even if you don't like country music, you'll probably still enjoy this long-running show in which country music from all eras is king. The cast features singers, dancers, musicians, comedians, youth performers and more. And it's not just country music; you'll hear gospel and patriotic songs as well. Country Tonite has been voted Best Show in the Smokies year after year.
This showplace also packs multiple shows into one venue. The lineup includes Soul of Motown (the biggest hits of Motown and the '60s/'70s) Hit Parade TimeWarp Jukebox (rock favorites from the '70s, '70s and '80s), the Magic of Terry Evanswood (an amazing magic show for all ages) and Grand American Opry, a new show for 2024 that has a little bit of everything - country, rock, gospel, Broadway, patriotic and more.
We'll be back with more shows next week, but in the meantime, if you come to see any of these shows in Pigeon Forge this year, remember that you'll be just a few miles from our Smoky Mountain zipline attraction. Zipline during the day and enjoy a show at night!
