There's something fishy going on in the Smokies this weekend, and it's not too late to get in on the action. The 13th Annual Smoky Mountain Trout Tournament takes place this Saturday and Sunday, and it's a great chance to put your angling skills to the test as you compete with folks from all over the country for more than $10,000 in prizes.
Some 20 miles of area streams are going to be stocked with 5,000 trout in advance of the action, and competitors of all ages—both local and out of town—will be vying to see who can catch the most fish over the course of the two-day tournament.
All participants will be on the honor system and have from 30 minutes before sunrise each day to weigh-in time each day to see how many fish they can catch. Weigh-ins are at 4 p.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday and take place at Patriot Park in Pigeon Forge.
Awards will be given for the largest trout as well as the smallest trout. In addition to cash, prizes will include gift certificates, trophies, fishing equipment, hotel/motel accommodations, attraction passes and more.
Of course, if you don't consider yourself much of a fisherman, you can still reel in plenty of fun and excitement this weekend with some Smoky Mountain zipline action.
