Smoky Mountain Ziplines is somewhat of a paradox. A lot of our guests are surprised to learn that when they come to our outpost to zip line, Pigeon Forge and the Parkway are a very short drive away (two miles). That proximity to all the other attractions in town as well as the city's abundance of shops, restaurants and lodging providers makes our canopy tour an easy thing to work into a vacation itinerary. Not having to spend a half-hour or more driving out into the remote regions of the Smokies ultimately frees up time in your schedule for other fun things.
On the other hand, however, once you're on our property, you would swear that you're far removed from civilization of any kind. Our main facility is located on Mill Creek Rd., which is a lightly traveled back road in the middle of the county, and once our transport vehicles shuttle you from the outpost to the top of our mountain zipline course, you'll really feel like you're out in the middle of nature.
That's because you are. Our property is built into a mountainside in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, and each zipline takes you closer and closer to the bottom of the course. Surrounding you throughout your adventure are mature hardwood trees, which provide welcome shade on warm summer days. But one of our most notable scenic features is our views of the mountains. At some of the higher points on the zipline course, including some of our treetop platforms, our guests enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the Smokies range. It's a must-stop photo opp for sure.
Our setting is also quiet and tranquil. Most days, all you can hear is the wind rustling through the trees, the chirping of birds and the occasional screams of our guests as they step off the launch platform and send themselves hurtling through the treetops as they coast from one platform to another. Otherwise, our zipline tour is an exercise in natural immersion. It's calming for the spirit, but it's also a great way to get an adrenaline rush and build inner confidence.
One of the best aspects of ziplining is that no previous experience is required. A lot of our guests are either first-time zipliners, or they're new to our course. Once you arrive, you're welcome to a free beverage to get yourself hydrated before your excursion, and then a team of two guides will work with your tour group to get everyone outfitted in all the necessary safety gear, including gloves, helmet and safety harness.
Next, your guides will go over all safety procedures and demonstrate the proper way to get harnessed up for each zipline, and they'll show you what you need to do while you're actually riding the line. Once you're coasting on the zipline, it's just a matter of keeping yourself correctly positioned but also not forgetting to look around and enjoy the sights and the sensation of flying through the air. You don't even have to worry about slowing down in most cases. Each zipline has an automatic braking system that will decelerate you as you approach the landing platform.
You can be assured that safety is a top priority for your guides at all times. All guests are secured to a safety cable when first stepping onto a launch platform and after completing a zipline run on the landing platform. So even when you're a hundred feet or so in the air on a platform, you're in no danger of falling.
So on your next visit to the Smokies, be sure to give us a call or book a zipline tour on our website. It will be the best “middle of nowhere but still close to all the action” trip you've ever had.
