With Valentine's Day only a couple of weeks away, we thought this might be a good time to come to the rescue of any of you guys or gals who are scrambling to come up with a unique way to wow your special someone this year. No worries; it's not too late to put together a romantic Smoky Mountain getaway that will go down as one of your all-time great Valentine celebrations. Any of the following suggestions will earn you points for sure, or if you're really motivated, you could incorporate more than one of them and gain instant status as Significant Other Of The Year.
Nothing sets the tone for Valentine's Day like a little alone time, and if that's your goal, we recommend booking a rental cabin in the Smokies. Hotels and condos are fine, but cabins offer the ultimate in privacy. There are dozens of rental companies in this area to choose from, and each typically offers a wide selection of properties in its inventory, many of which are cozy, one-bedroom cabins. Just browse their websites to find one that's set in a fairly remote location and that has the amenities you want. Features like fireplaces, hot tubs, decks, full kitchens, laundry facilities, game rooms and whirlpool tubs in the primary bath are commonly offered, depending on the individual cabin. And if you can find a rental that comes with stunning views of the mountains, that's the icing on the cake. Even with a secluded property, you can probably still find a cabin that's not too far a drive from all the attractions, restaurants and shops in Pigeon Forge, Sevierville and Gatlinburg.
Although confectionary gifts have fallen somewhat out of favor over the years, there are those who still appreciate a good assortment of chocolates. When you visit the Smokies, you'll not only find a wide selection of candy and sweet shops, you'll discover that many of these businesses actually make their own chocolates, fudges and taffies on site. Smoky Mountain Candy Makers and The Old Mill Candy Kitchen in Pigeon Forge, Ole Smoky Candy Kitchen in Gatlinburg and the Candy Factory at The Apple Barn in Sevierville are good places to start. These shops all offer a wide variety of sweet treats, and if you show up at the right time, you might be able to watch the candy-making process as it happens.
Food doesn't have to be the focus of a successful Valentine's Day getaway, but if that's a priority for you, you certainly won't want to overlook taking your beloved out for a romantic dinner. In this case, it's all about good food, but the right atmosphere is more important than ever; mountain and riverfront views are among the features to look for when weighing your options. With that in mind, we're going to steer you toward Gatlinburg, where both of those amenities are more commonly found. Some of the restaurants there to consider are The Peddler Steakhouse, Greenbrier Restaurant, Chesapeake's, The Melting Pot, The Buckhorn Inn and Cherokee Grill. Typically, restaurants in the Smokies don't take reservations, but it wouldn't hurt to make some phone calls just in case any of them are accepting them for Valentine's Day. If you want to avoid a long wait for dinner, a couple of strategies would be to go out for dinner earlier or later than usual that day or consider having your official Valentine's Day dinner the evening before or after actual Valentine's Day.
However you choose to celebrate, all of us at Smoky Mountain Ziplines would like to wish you all a memorable Valentine's Day in the mountains this year. Unfortunately, we can't offer you any daytime recreation on our Gatlinburg ziplines right now, but we will be kicking off our 2023 season some time in March.
