Usually, we're all about encouraging people to travel to the Great Smoky Mountains, but with all the snow and ice that's swept through the region this week, this is one of those rare cases when we'll tell you that you're best off staying put, wherever you happen to be.
But just in case you had given some thought to venturing into the national park this week (after all, there are probably some beautiful winter landscapes to be seen), here is a list of road closures as of February 16:
• Little River Road from the Sugarlands Visitor Center to the Townsend Wye
• Cades Cove Loop
• Laurel Creek Road at the Townsend Wye
• U.S. Hwy. 441/Newfound Gap Rd. from Gatlinburg to Cherokee, NC
• Cherokee Orchard Road
• Gatlinburg Bypass
In other words, if you're in Gatlinburg, you're probably going to be here for a few more days, and if you were planning to visit Gatlinburg, you might want to change your plans. Before venturing anywhere toward or out of the Smokies, be sure to check the local weather and travel conditions.
As for us here at Smoky Mountain Zip Lines, we're dreaming of an early spring along with the rest of you, just waiting for warmer days when we can get folks geared up and send them zipping through the mountains.
