Oktoberfest At Ober Gatlinburg

It's almost as if our Smoky Mountain weather knew that fall had arrived on the calendar. We've been blessed this week with some cool nights, comfortable days, blue skies and plenty of sunshine-the perfect lead-in to one of the most popular seasons in the Smokies.

At Ober Gatlinburg, they're celebrating the season with Oktoberfest, which kicks off this Saturday, September 27, and continues through November 2. The festival dates back to 1810, when the first Oktoberfest was a public celebration of the wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig I and Princess Therese of Bavaria. That first event featured a horse race, food, music and dancing.

Ober Gatlinburg's version of Oktoberfest features many of those same elements, including the Bavarian Fun Makers Band, which spices up the proceedings with traditional Bavarian folk dances, schuhplattling, oompah music, sing-alongs, yodeling and more. Shows are at 1 and 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and at 12, 2, 4 and 6 p.m. Fridays through Sundays.

In addition to the music, Oktoberfest includes foods such as traditional German wurst, schnitzel, sauerkraut, strudel, and pretzels.

Remember that Ober Gatlinburg also has lots of family amusements and attractions, including an alpine chair lift and an aerial tramway, which transports guests from downtown to Ober and back. However, if you want the best place to zipline, Gatlinburg doesn't offer anything close to what you'll find at Smoky Mountain Ziplines in Pigeon Forge. We offer the most, longest and fastest ziplines in the area!
