New Places To Enjoy And Look Forward To

Usually, we take a little time each spring to preview a lot of the new attractions, shops, restaurants and accommodations coming to the Smokies. We know a lot of you come to the mountains every year for a vacation or a weekend getaway, so having new places to plug into your travel itinerary always makes each trip a new adventure. (We're also glad that a lot of you also choose to come back to your favorites, including our zip lines in the Smokies each year.)

One of the amazing things about Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and Sevierville, however, is that new businesses are popping up year 'round, so even though we did preview some cool new travel stops back in the spring (and most of them are up and running), there are still some new things to look forward to before this year is finished. And there are plans for even more vacation destinations in the year ahead. So remember that summer's not over, and there's still a bunch of reasons to head back to the mountains soon.

WildSide

If you like outdoor thrills like riding ziplines, you might also go for this new 900-acre adventure course in the mountains, featuring 18 miles of trails and 1,500 feet of elevation change. Among the options are guided UTV tours, mountain biking for everyone from beginners to experienced riders, and e-bike rentals. Sounds like another fun way to get the adrenaline pumping.

Space Race Adventures

Yes, there are plenty of places to play mini golf and ride go-carts, but this new attraction offers the distinction of having an outer-space theme. They also have a laser tag arena where participants can engage in battle against other players/teams, and like the other aspects of this attraction, the theme is ultra-futuristic.

Truth Traveler: Virtual Reality Experience

Although it's not open yet, this attraction coming to Pigeon Forge in the near future also relies on technology to entertain. Guests wear virtual reality headsets and are seated in full-motion chairs that simulate the many adventures they'll experience in this biblically-themed ride. It adds a whole new dimension to some of your favorite Bible stories.

Lost Mine Mountain Coaster & Mini Golf

Here's another mountain coaster and mini-golf course for visitors to enjoy in the Smokies, and this time, the theme is built around a world of bears who mine for honey. The coaster takes advantage of its hilly surroundings, and the 18-hole golf course also ties into the same theme.

Braxton Beaver's Shipwreck Bay

While you won't be able to take advantage of it this summer, this new indoor water park is slated to offer lots of splashy water fun sometime in early 2025. Located at Country Cascades Waterpark Resort in Pigeon Forge, this 16,000-square-foot addition will offer a variety of rides, slides and play areas so guests can have fun in the water all year long.

Flyaway Indoor Skydiving

This won't exactly be a brand-new name to the Smokies. The original Flyaway attraction operated on the Parkway for decades. But in the near future, they'll be moving in to their new 50,000-square-foot facility on Teaster Lane. Improvements include two separate wind tunnels as well as onsite lodging for camps and courses as well as a gym and a recovery center.

In addition to these attractions, look for new eateries, including Sugar Baby (a sweet shop) in Gatlinburg, Red's Soda Fountain & Ice Cream in downtown Sevierville and a Wingstop location, also in Sevierville.

Meanwhile, a bunch of new lodging providers have hit the scene (or will soon). These include Comfort Suites Gatlinburg, Embassy Suites in Gatlinburg, The Lodges at Reedmont in Sevierville, The Davis Hotel in downtown Sevierville, the Allegory Hotel across from the Gatlinburg Convention Center, the Delta Hotel (a new Marriott Property coming to Gatlinburg), the Cambria Hotel Gatlinburg and the DreamCatcher Hotel in Pigeon Forge.
