5 New Things To Do In 2022

We're wrapping up our 2021 season at Smoky Mountain Ziplines this week. Starting next week, we'll be on winter hiatus for a few months and expect to launch our 2022 season sometime in March. If you follow us on Facebook, we'll give you a heads-up regarding the exact date. If you don't follow us there, consider liking our Facebook page to get daily posts about our Pigeon Forge zipline attraction as well as information about other area attractions, shops, restaurants and events as well as Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

In the meantime, keep in mind that Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg and Sevierville are far from shut down during the winter months. Lots of attractions and other businesses will still be open for visitors to the Great Smoky Mountains. But the arrival of our zipline season is only one of many things to look forward to in 2022. As usual, several brand-new ventures will be opening in the Smokies, and we've gathered some info on just a few of them.

SkyLand Ranch

Sevierville is getting a new, one-of-a-kind attraction next year. SkyLand Ranch is a $40 million development that will feature a chairlift, retail shops, a mountain coaster, event space, canopy walks and much more. Set to open in April, the attraction will be located on a 100-acre farm off the Parkway. Your journey will begin with a ride on the chairlift (which includes both chairs and open-air gondolas) to the top of the attraction. From there, you can enjoy a mountain coaster that's over a mile long, a suspended bridge with a wide walkway, food vendors and more. There are also plans for a variety of shops, including a candy shop, a bakery, a boutique, a Christmas shop and a toy store.

Downtown Flavortown

Celebrity chef Guy Fieri is within weeks of opening his brand-new multipurpose venue at The Mountain Mile in Pigeon Forge. In fact, the exterior signage has already gone up on this 43,000-square-foot attraction that will be home to a 300-plus-seat restaurant showcasing Fieri's famous culinary combinations. In addition to the restaurant, Downtown Flavortown will offer plenty of fun, including a 14-lane duckpin bowling alley, more than 10,000 square feet of arcade games and a photo opp in front of a 1968 Chevy Camaro. Smoky Mountain visitors might already be familiar with another of Guy Fieri's culinary ventures, the Chicken Guy! restaurant that's been open on the Parkway in Gatlinburg since October.

New Dollywood experiences

Each year, Dollywood theme park in Pigeon Forge offers something new for visitors to enjoy, and 2022 is no exception. The popular Flower and Food Festival will feature new Mosaiculture displays, and the Sweet Summer Nights 3D Drone & Fireworks Show will expand to feature more aerial drones. Then during Harvest Festival, guests will experience the brand-new Hoot Owl Hollow in Craftsman's Valley, featuring a number of owl-themed displays. Also in 2022, Dollywood is introducing a new season pass structure. The Silver, Gold and Diamond passes have been upgraded to enhance passholders' experiences. For example, the Diamond Pass will provide guests six Bring-A-Friend Free passes, a refillable mug, free one-time preferred parking and much more. It's the best option for vacationers who want to get the most out of their visits to Dollywood.

Those are just a few of the bigger changes coming to the Smokies in 2022. But that's not all. The Axe House in Sevierville will have undergone a major renovation and will have been rebranded as the Axe House Tavern. It's one of the first businesses in the area to combine food-and-beverage service and axe throwing into one venue. Also, Pigeon Forge's first rooftop eatery, Azul Cantina, will be putting a flavorful twist on traditional Tex-Mex dining thanks to wood-fire grilling methods. All the dishes will be made from scratching using fresh, authentic ingredients. It's expected to open at the Mountain Mile in Pigeon Forge some time in the spring.
