This past weekend marked the opening of Dollywood theme park's 39th season in the Great Smoky Mountains. Located in Pigeon Forge the park is undeniably the largest attraction in the area, drawing millions of visitors each year to experience its wide array of rides, attractions, shows, shops, eateries and festivals. This year, Dollywood's turnstiles opened on Saturday, March 9. We should also note that the park will be open more days this year than ever before - 280.

As usual, Dollywood guests will discover some new features and experiences within its 150-acre footprint. For starters, keep an eye out for a brand-new attraction called the Dolly Parton Experience, beginning in May. It will offer several interactive elements designed to make guests feel as if they right alongside Dolly as she journeys from the hills of East Tennessee to performance stages around the world. Located in the Adventures in Imagination section of the park, the Dolly Parton Experience is three times larger than the former Chasing Rainbow Museum that used to stand on the same site. The DPE is multifaceted as it focuses on elements such as Dolly's career, her sources of inspiration and the importance of her family as well as a curated exhibit that highlights the star's signature style through the years.

In addition to the Dolly Parton Experience, the park is unveiling an update to the Lightning Rod roller coaster for 2024. The ride will feature a new high-speed chain lift that will provide guests with a more consistent and efficient ride experience. This means an upgrade to the original launch system, but once the coaster trains reach the first drop on the course, the ride experience pretty much will be identical to what previous guests might recall.

The 2024 season will begin with the I Will Always Love You Music Festival, which is returning following rave reviews for its premier season last year. The festival will feature new entertainment elements this year as will several other Dollywood shows. Look for an updated version of the beloved Paradise Road production as well as a new show called Trio, which celebrates the same-named album that features Dolly performing with Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt. There will also be an interactive show this year that allows guests to sing along with some of Dolly's biggest hits. The I Will Always Love You Music Festival runs March 9 through April 14.

Also this spring, look for Dollywood's popular Flower & Food Festival, April 19 through June 9. Iconic Mosaiculture displays throughout the park and vivid larger-than-life flower sculptures create an immersive atmosphere for park guests as they make their way through more than a half-million blooms. In addition, Dollywood's culinary team showcases its world-class abilities with a menu full of delicacies that highlight the tastes of spring in the Smokies.

And remember that Dollywood's water park, Dollywood's Splash Country, will kick off its 2024 season on Memorial Day weekend. Guests interested in staying near the Dollywood property should also know that both Dollywood resorts are now open, including the new HeartSong Lodge & Resorts as well as the DreamMore Resort & Spa, which has received some enhancements for this year.
