1. Laurel Falls Trail
- Distance: 2.6 miles round trip
- Location: Near Sugarlands Visitor Center
- Why it's great: This paved trail leads to one of the most popular waterfalls in the Smokies. The relatively flat path is stroller-friendly, and the reward at the end is a beautiful, photo-worthy waterfall.
2. Elkmont Nature Trail
- Distance: 0.8-mile loop
- Location: Elkmont area
- Why it's great: This short, scenic loop is ideal for young children learning to hike. It features wildflowers, river views, and a gentle trail that loops through a peaceful forest setting.
3. Cataract Falls
- Distance: 1-mile round trip
- Location: Behind the Sugarlands Visitor Center
- Why it's great: This shaded walk is perfect for toddlers and young kids. It's flat, quiet, and ends at a lovely little waterfall-plus, it's super close to educational exhibits at the visitor center.
4. Metcalf Bottoms Trail
- Distance: 1.5 miles round trip
- Location: Metcalf Bottoms Picnic Area
- Why it's great: This gentle trail follows along a beautiful creek and leads to the historic Little Greenbrier Schoolhouse. It's a great mix of nature and history with spots to picnic and play by the water.
5. Clingmans Dome Observation Tower Trail
- Distance: 1-mile round trip (note: paved but steep)
- Location: Clingmans Dome parking area
- Why it's great: While the trail is a bit steep, it's paved and short-making it doable for energetic kids. At the top, you'll find panoramic mountain views that make the effort worth it!
