An Eventful Season Ahead

As summer heads into its final official month and many anticipate the arrival of autumn, we at Smoky Mountain Ziplines thought we'd take a look at many of the local special events calendars in our area and preview some of the highlights. What we're seeing are lots of fun outings that just about anyone can enjoy.

Special events are an engaging way to get further involved in a Smokies getaway. They're something a little different that goes beyond the usual array of attractions, shops and eateries. Often, these are hands-on opportunities to experience the mountains that you can only enjoy at specific times of the year. So on your next journey here, we hope you make some time to try out our ziplines in Pigeon Forge and also carve out some time to attend one or more of the following unique happenings.

Sevier County Fair

August 27 through September 2

Sevier County Fairgrounds, Sevierville

This annual county fair has been a staple of early fall in the Smokies for many decades, and this year, fair goers can experience as many as seven days of fun, including livestock shows, carnival rides, games, free laser tag, nightly contests and much more. It's one of the few fairs in the region that has remained true to its agricultural roots.

Live Music At The Heritage Museum

September 6 and 20 and October 4

Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center, Townsend

This museum devoted to the people and civilizations that have called our area home for the past few thousand years is hosting live music concerts on its 10-acre property. The Sunset Series concerts remaining this year offer a variety of acts, including Landslide – A Tribute to Fleetwood Mac, Linda Davis and Sean of the South.

Great Smoky Mountains Half Marathon & 5K

September 6 and 7

Talley Ho Inn, Townsend

If running road races is your thing, seriously consider this annual half marathon and 5K hosted by the Vacation Races organization, which stages similar half marathon events near national parks all over the country. The Smokies race has become quite popular, attracting runners from all over the world who come here to enjoy their favorite sport in one of the most beautiful settings in America.

Dollywood Harvest Festival & Great Pumpkin Luminights

September 9 through October 28

Dollywood, Pigeon Forge

This is one of Dollywood biggest annual festivals, showcasing the theme park when it's dressed up in full fall regalia, including more than 12,000 glowing pumpkins that light up the night with color. The fall foliage in the area will be adding colors of its own, and the smells of apple and pumpkin treats will waft through the streets of Dollywood. Most of the park's rides are open for good times, and special areas like Hoot Owl Hollow will help visitors tap into those chill autumn vibes. From rides and attractions to crafts and country cooking, Dollywood Harvest Festival is definitely a highlight of fall in the Smokies. The festival also includes the Southern Gospel Jubilee, the largest Southern gospel celebration in the world. Guests will hear inspirational and uplifting music from some of the world's biggest gospel groups, including Gold City, Ernie Hasse and The McKameys.

Fall Rod Run 2024

September 12 through 14

LeConte Center, Pigeon Forge

Auto shows are big in the Smokies, and this three-day event is probably the grandaddy of them all. Custom-auto enthusiasts from all over the country will converge on Pigeon Forge for a weekend of car displays, a swap meet, vendors and competition. Top vehicles will vie for $10,000 in cash as well as Top 25 awards, Ultimate 5 awards and the coveted King of the Hill award.
